Peek at the Week 1-20-19

Good evening Ward Families,

I hope you enjoy your three day weekend in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As a reminder, HCPS will be closed tomorrow in observance of Dr. King’s birthday.

We would like to congratulate Aleigha White-Barfield for being selected as Ward Elementary School’s Light of Hope recipient for this school year! This award, which is presented by the Henrico County Dr. Martin Luther King Commemoration Association, is given to students that are champions of community service and who best demonstrates the attributes of Dr. King. We are super proud of Aleigha and her commitment to her community. Aleigha will be recognized tomorrow, January 21st, at Henrico High School. Way to go Aleigha!

We thank our dads for coming out to our annual Donuts, Dads, and Books in celebration of MANuary at Ward! We had a HUGE turnout! We would like to also thank our Ward moms that came out to help serve our deserving dads breakfast. Thank you all for supporting our school. We will continue to celebrate MANuary this week with our Fitness Night that will take place on Thursday, January 24th, from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. We will have Zumba, cardio drumming, boot camp, mindfulness, free throw competition, and prizes! The class with the most attendees will get extra P.E! We hope to see you there!

We will begin semester benchmark testing this week. 4th and 5th grade students will take their reading benchmarks this Wednesday and Thursday. Please be sure to get a good night’s rest in preparation for testing.

Thank you Ward Families and I hope that everyone has a great week!

Peek at the Week 1-6-19

Good evening Ward Families,

We had a great first two days back at Ward last week. We have our first full week of school following the winter break and we are looking forward to a great week. We met with all grade levels last Friday to review school wide expectations for students and ask that parents continue to encourage their children to demonstrate Ward Strong behavior.

We will have our January Coffee with the Principals tomorrow morning, January 7th, at 7:45 a.m. We look forward to seeing our parents there.

Rolfe Middle School will also be visiting our 5th grade students tomorrow to share information about the middle school with our students.

We will begin our after school team practices this week on Wednesday, January 9th. Only students that returned permission forms for basketball, cheer, and dance teams should plan to stay back after school. Parents, letters outlining program information and bus routes will be sent home with students tomorrow.

January is also MANuary at Ward! During this month, we encourage fathers and father figures to become actively involved at school by volunteering during lunch shifts, greeting students each morning, and attending our events this month. If you would like to volunteer at lunch or greet students, please contact Ms. Chase, our Family Advocate. Please also mark your calendars for our Donuts, Dads, and Books event that will take place on January 18th. Letters about this event will be sent home this week. Additionally, please mark your calendars for our Fitness Night taking place on January 24th. Fliers for this event will be sent home in the coming weeks.

Parents, we continue to encourage you to attend school events to make our Ward Strong Parent Honor Roll! Thank you to our parents that have attended events this school year and we look forward to seeing more in 2019!

As always, thank you for your support Ward Families! Have a wonderful week!
