Henrico families, this is mostly a reminder of the same information that was emailed to you last Friday, except for one new item related to bus schedules (scroll past the translations in Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Dari and Arabic):
NEW: Some bus schedules may have changed temporarily: You may have received messages this weekend if your transportation information was updated in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. These are temporary changes to certain routes that were made due to our driver shortage. Please check PowerSchool to verify your student(s) bus schedule(s). If you do not have access to the Parent Portal please contact your child’s school. If you did not receive a message from ‘HCPS Pupil Transportation’, then it’s likely that your bus information remains unchanged. Students will not be marked tardy if the reasons are related to bus transportation. We expect the situation will improve as we settle into the new school year.
Reminders of information previously communicated on Friday, Sept. 3
Bus driver pay: Did you know that we’ve increased bus driver pay AND we’re offering incentives in the range of $1,000-$3,000 that include both new and current drivers? Spread the word! Full details begin on this page.
COVID-19 case information: Just like last year, we’ll be tracking COVID-19 cases in HCPS schools and offices. Information will be updated almost every day. Bookmark this page to keep track of positive cases and other important COVID-19 information.
Flow chart: What happens when a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19? Check out this flow chart to become familiar with the steps that HCPS will take, in line with the guidance of health experts.
What about instruction and daily attendance for students who have to quarantine? Visit this page for an explanation of possible scenarios, as well as digital learning support.
Masks: As you know, masks are required inside schools and offices for all individuals (employees, students and others), regardless of vaccination status. Mask-use is required on school buses by a federal order. HCPS also asks that students and staff wear masks outdoors, especially when physical distancing is not possible. For more, check out this FAQ and an infographic about mask-use in specific situations.
Free school meals: School breakfasts and lunches are free of charge during the school year!
Health and safety during mealtime: We’re also responding to your concerns about health and safety during meal times. Every school cafeteria, starting with our elementary schools, will have multiple brand new “air scrubbers” in it, which perform a 5-stage process of filtering and purifying indoor air. Additional information about our review of air-handling systems is available here. Specific health/safety plans for each building will be communicated by your school, often in a principal’s message and/or the school’s own website.
Other health strategies: In addition to reviewing and adjusting all of our indoor air systems (which we instituted last year), we are changing our filters more frequently and upgrading filters where the system designs allow. Keeping our students and staff healthy also includes: Maintaining 3-foot distancing where possible; Frequent cleaning of high-touch areas; Clear plastic desk guards (for use by request); A continued focus on handwashing, and more!
PowerSchool Parent Portal and other important resources: Find HCPS’ online services at “The Connection,” one easy place to find the tools you need, and how to sign up. PowerSchool gives families of all grade levels easy access to class grades, attendance information and student schedules. If you need assistance with your student’s login/password or student I.D. number, please email email@example.com and a member of our Technology team will respond within one business day.
Post your first day pics! Everybody loves seeing those beautiful “First Day of School” pictures. Here are some signs we made that you can print at home. Let your student(s) smile and pose before they start school (in-person or virtual learners!)
